What is multimedia?

Multimedia is a medium through which the media elements are spread across from one place to another using computer. In other words, it is the simultaneous use of data from different sources. As the name implies, multimedia uses more than one media such as text, graphics, videos, animation, and audio to process and present the information in a structured manner. Every type of information is processed digitally. If the sequence and timing of these media elements can be controlled by the user using a computer, then one can name it as Interactive Multimedia. Text: Text is the most common medium to represent information. It involves the use of text types, sizes, and colors. Using multimedia text type other media can be linked. In the text notes, captions, subtitles, content, and indexes are involved. The most commonly used software for viewing text files are Microsoft Word, Notepad, Wordpad, etc.

Graphics: Graphics is the non-text representation of information like drawing, photograph, or a chart. Graphic design processes manipulate and display images. Through the use of graphics editing software like Adobe Photoshop, graphics can be edited easily and can be made effective and attractive.

Video: Video is becoming the best way to communicate with each other. In multimedia, it makes more presentable information and saves time. It provides the appearance of complete motion. Commonly used software for viewing videos include Window Media Player or Real Player. Digital videos are gaining popularity nowadays.

Animation: Animation gives visual effects. Computer animation creates, develops, sequences, and displays a set of images. It is the process of bringing the illusion of motion by the rapid movement of the image sequence. Computer software produces animation by manipulating the images using 2D and 3D vector graphics. Animation has become a big part of the media.

Audio: Audio relates to the recording, synthesizing, playing, etc. It gives life to the static state of multimedia. They are human voices, instrumental notes, natural sound, and many more. It increases understand-ability and improves the clarity of the concept to its full potential. Two basic types of audio are analog and digital.
